Landscape Case Study – New Build in Finchampstead Spring 2025

Following a full ground clearance of over 50 tonnes of earth and rubbish left behind by the builders on this new build estate, the ground was levelled out in preparation for a full garden redesign.

A new curved porcelain patio was installed using 900cm by 600cm Hammerstone Honey porcelain paving slabs.

The patio was cleaned and then finished with a strong and consistent exterior grouting mix.

Within the centre of the patio an aesthetic circular patio area was installed which will encompass a new fire pit.

A shed base was installed in one corner of the garden and a good quality pressure treated tongue and groove shed put in place. An apex roof was fitted with strong green mineral felt . The shed has double doors for ease of access.

A new greenhouse was erected alongside the new shed.

To the right of the new greenhouse a new raised bed was built using good quality softwood sleepers.

These werelaid upon a ballast and cement footing, supported by hidden posts concreted into the ground and secured with timber fixing screws. The beds sit 60cm off the ground so can also be used as as an alternative seating area.

A contrasting row of granite setts were installed to define the new patio, greenhouse area and the new borders with the lawn. As well as being a convenient mowing edge these will then be used to create more aesthetic curved borders.

Around the outside of the shed, greenhouse and shed area, a contrasting gravel terrain is to be created. The gravel is to be laid upon level compacted ground, sub base and weed membrane.

Patio slabs matching the new patio were used as stepping stones to take you from the house to the new shed in an aesthetic curve.

Good quality screened top soil was laid for the installation of 50m² of high quality turf.

The new planting borders including the raised beds were dug over and levelled in preparation for planting

Within the new borders there will be a mixed border of semi established shrubs and perennials that will suit the aspect and soil. Some taller tress will be included for privacy.
